U.S. District Land Office Registers kept records of public lands offered for sale, those sold and other matters relating to the sale of public lands. This volume is labeled "register of receipts taken from individuals by William Crawford, receiver of P.A. at St. Stephens, on account of monies returned in consequences of land applied for being adjudged not for sale and all money entered of the current expenses of this." Each entry contains the date, the receipt number, purchaser's name and county of residence, amount of commission, amount repaid and notes. This volume documents the complexities of public land sales and the problems associated with determining which lands could be offered for sale.
